Volkswagen Taigun SUV Crosses 1 Lakh Unit Sales Milestone in India Within 3 Years of Launch
The Taigun received a five-star Global NCAP safety rating just over a year after its launch. In June, Volkswagen further improved the SUV by making six airbags standard on all models, boosting its safety features.
Volkswagen India has reached a significant milestone with the Taigun SUV, selling 1 lakh units since its launch three years ago. According to SIAM data, 67,140 units were sold domestically by the end of August, while 32,742 units were exported, bringing the total to 99,882 units. With the addition of the initial September dispatches, the carmaker has officially surpassed the 1 lakh-unit mark. The SUV witnessed its highest domestic sales in the financial year ending March 2023, with 21,736 units sold. However, dispatches have slightly declined since then. On the export front, the Taigun reached its peak in FY2024, with 12,621 units shipped.

Volkswagen Taigun: Mechanical Setup
The Volkswagen Taigun offers the same engine options as the Skoda Kushaq: a 1.5-litre four-cylinder and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine. The 1.0-litre engine generates 115bhp of maximum power and 175Nm of peak torque, while the 1.5-litre engine produces 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both engines come with a standard six-speed manual gearbox, but there are automatic options as well a six-speed torque converter for the 1.0-litre TSI and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for the 1.5-litre TSI.

Now coming to the features, the Taigun has an 8-inch digital driver's display, a single-pane sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, cruise control, and illuminated footwells. The top-of-the-line Taigun variants also boast a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For enhanced safety, these models are equipped with three-point seatbelts, electronic stability control (ESC), a rearview camera, automatic air conditioning, ambient lighting, and six airbags to protect all passengers.

Volkswagen Taigun: Market Competitors
The ex-showroom price of the Volkswagen SUV starts at Rs 10.90 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.70 lakh, with special deals available for base-spec and top-end versions. In terms of market rivalry, the Taigun goes up against the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Citroen C3 Aircross, and MG Astor.
