New MG Astor Hybrid Officially Teased Ahead of Global Debut

The updated MG Astor, which goes by the name ZS in select markets, is set to make its global debut on August 28 2024. The car will have a self-charging hybrid propulsion system (HEV), which combines an Atkinson cycle petrol mill and an electric motor. This unit employs a 1.83kWh NCM lithium-ion battery that allows for pure electric operation over shorter distances. The facelifted SUV will feature a front-wheel-drive system and a 3-speed automatic gearbox. For those unaware, the Astor is currently offered in Spain with two engine options: a 1.0-litre T-GDI and a 1.5-litre VTI-tech. The former generates 109bhp and 160Nm, while the latter develops 104.5bhp and 141Nm. The available gearbox options are 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and 5-speed manual. New MG Astor Hybrid: What's New?
Aside from the hybrid heart, the redesigned MG SUV will have a complete design evolution. It is likely to be more aggressive, with a redesigned front design that includes a new grille, headlamps, bumper, and air intake. The hybrid SUV is also expected to get new alloy wheels, modified taillights, and a reworked back bumper. Although the company hasn't yet disclosed the interior, the car is likely to have a 360-degree camera setup, wireless charging, a keyless entry and start system, power-adjustable front seats, and dual screens (one for infotainment and another for the instrument panel). The SUV will also feature an updated ADAS package.

New MG Astor Hybrid: Global Launch Timeline
MG is expected to launch the revamped Astor in Europe in September 2024. With an updated appearance and mechanical components, the upcoming SUV is estimated to cost roughly Euro 25,000 (Rs 23.20 lakh), which is more than the current petrol version, which is priced at Euro 17,890 (Rs 16.61 lakh). There is currently no information on the SUV's launch in India, but industry rumours say that the upgraded model may go on sale here next year.
