Land Rover Defender Engine Options Rejigged in India, Check Details Here
The price range of the Land Rover Defender SUV has been updated, with the prices now starting at Rs 1.04 crore and reaching up to Rs 1.57 crore. The previous range was Rs 92.70 lakh to Rs 2.85 crore.
Land Rover has significantly overhauled its Defender lineup in India, limiting the number of engine options available to focus on a more simplified offering. The renowned SUV, noted for its toughness and upscale appearance, will now only come in two engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol and a 3.0-litre diesel, spread across seven different variants. The revamp of the Defender lineup is consistent with Land Rover's overarching plan to streamline its product line while preserving the Defender's premium positioning. Meanwhile, in a recent development, the flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, unlike the Defender, have recently undergone localisation; in fact, deliveries of the locally produced SUV are already underway.

Land Rover Defender: Current Engine Options
Following the latest rejig, the 2.0-litre engine is now the only petrol option available in the lineup, and it is solely offered in the 110 body style with the X-Dynamic HSE trim. However, the 3.0-litre diesel mill comes in three trim levels—X-Dynamic HSE, X, and the Sedona Edition—and is available with all three body styles—90, 110, and 130. Due to this restructuring, the base price of the Defender has inevitably increased, as the 90 model with the 2.0-litre petrol unit, which was more affordable, is no longer available.
Land Rover Defender: Old Engine Options
For those unaware, there used to be five different engine options for the Defender, including a 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid and a 5.0-litre V8 (PHEV). Nevertheless, Land Rover has decided to stop selling certain versions in India, perhaps as a result of decreased demand and the difficulties involved in bringing these particular models into the country. The price range of the SUV has been updated to reflect this, with the prices now starting at Rs 1.04 crore and reaching up to Rs 1.57 crore. The previous range was Rs 92.70 lakh to Rs 2.85 crore. Notably, the recently released, high-performance Defender Octa V8 is still accessible, albeit with restricted availability for the Indian market. For those looking for the best Defender experience, this limited availability gives an air of exclusivity.
