Yamaha Motor India has launched the new MT-03 motorcycle at Rs 4.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Sibling to the R3, the MT-03 is the company's first naked bike in India since the original MT-01 and boasts of a 321cc, parallel-twin engine and a six-speed gearbox. Bookings for the street bike are already underway for a token amount of Rs 20,000, and the bikemaker has brought in the bike in two colour options – Grey-Cyan Blue and Midnight Black, depending on the availability of stock. The Yamaha MT-03 comes in a single variant and here, we take a close look at the engine, styling, and features offered with the bike.
Yamaha MT-03: Engine, Output
Like the R3 sport bike, the MT-03 comes powered by a 321cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that belts out 41bhp at 10,750rpm and 29.5Nm of peak torque at 9,000rpm. The six-speed transmission is also the same unit that does the duty in the Yamaha MT-03. Also on offer is a slipper clutch.

Yamaha MT-03: Suspension, Brakes, Tyres
For suspension duties, the motorcycle comes with upside-down forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. Meanwhile, the braking hardware consists of a 298mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc. The discs are mounted on 17-inch wheels clothed in 110/70 front and 140/70 rear tubeless tyres.
Yamaha MT-03: Styling
While its chassis and motor are shared with the fully-faired sibling, the naked MT-03 looks quite similar to the popular MT-15. Yamaha's MT-03 has an aggressive face, featuring a projector headlamp with spoilers, split-style LED daytime running lights, and muscular bodywork. Other bits include an upswept side-mounted exhaust, a wide 14-litre fuel tank, and a slim LED tail lamp.
Yamaha MT-03: Size/Dimensions
In terms of dimensions, the MT-03 measures 2,090mm in length, 755mm in width, and 1,070mm in height. Weighing 167 kilograms with a seat that is just 780mm off the ground, the Yamaha MT-03 is one of the more accessible bikes on the market today. The ground clearance (minimum) and wheelbase are rated at 160mm and 1,380mm, respectively.

Features-wise, the bike is decently equipped, with an LCD instrument console, LED illumination, and dual-channel ABS. But it misses out on many frills like traction control, quick-shifter, TFT display, and riding modes, all of which are offered with its close rival – the KTM 390 Duke.

Yamaha MT-03: Price, Market Rivals
Positioned as a rival to the likes of the KTM 390 Duke, BMW G 310 R, and Keeway K300 N, the MT-03 carries a sticker price of Rs 4.60 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be imported to India as a completely built-up unit from Indonesia, and will be retailed through select Blue Square showrooms.
