Jawa Motorcycles has launched the updated Jawa 42 in India. The upgraded Jawa 42 uses a new, J-Panther single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which churns out 27bhp and 26.84Nm of peak torque.
Jawa has updated the 42 neo-classic motorcycle lineup in India. For 2024, the Jawa 42 gets a slip-and-assist clutch, a reworked engine, and a few cosmetic changes. The motorcycle is available in three configurations – spoked wheels with single-channel ABS; spoked wheels with dual-channel ABS; and alloy wheels with dual-channel ABS, spread across 14 colour options. The Jawa 42 lineup starts with the standard Vega White (Single channel ABS, Spoked wheels) variant at Rs 1.73 lakh (ex-showroom), making the bike more affordable than before. At the top of the heap sits the top-spec model featuring both alloy wheels and dual-channel ABS, taking the price to Rs 1.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
As part of mechanical upgrades, the updated Jawa 42 uses a new, J-Panther single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine displacing 294.72cc. The engine in the 2024 Jawa 42 churns out 27bhp and 26.84Nm of peak torque while being mated to a six-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch.

Jawa says it has reworked engine internals, including the crankshaft, for refined NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels. The engine mapping has also been revised to offer better low-end performance. Jawa has also incorporated gear-based throttle mapping for smoother shifts, while a redesigned balancer weight and new hub-type balancer gear are said to have reduced vibrations. Other enhancements include a heavier magneto, a larger throttle body and entry duct, and a CP4 cylinder head.
Mechanical changes aside, the 2024 iteration of the Jawa 42 also offers improved ground clearance and a retuned suspension setup, and finally, Jawa has adjusted the mounting point for twin shock absorbers. Braking duties are carried out by a disc brake at both ends.
Updated Jawa 42: Visual Changes
Visually, the updated Jawa 42 remains almost the same, save for a new seat for greater ride comfort. It has a seat height of 788mm. Other elements, including a round headlamp and a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, continue.
'We've left no stone unturned in our quest for ''price-performance'' perfection. From upgrading materials to refining our manufacturing processes, we've pushed boundaries at every step. We believe in the philosophy of price-performance engineering, and the result is a motorcycle that doesn't just meet expectations—it redefines them. The authentic neo-classic 2024 Jawa 42 is a trinity of edgy performance, gorgeous design, and precision engineering', said Anupam Thareja, co-founder, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles.
