Triumph Tiger Sport 660 launched at Rs 8.95 lakh
The new entry point to Triumph's iconic Tiger range is the Tiger Sport 660. It borrows most of its mechanicals from the Trident 660 but gets a few unique bits to allow it to be more suited to a wider range of road conditions while also being geared for touring.
Bookings for the Tiger Sport 660 are already open.
Triumph is making the Tiger line-up in India even stronger this year, and the launch of the Tiger Sport 660 is the first step towards that. The Sport 660 serves as the entry point to the Tiger range and is based on the Trident 660. Introductory prices start at Rs 8.95 lakh and Triumph has already opened bookings for it.
In terms of design, the Tiger Sport 660 looks less purposeful than something like the Tiger 900, but it does look quite muscular with its flowing lines, tall windscreen, and athletic rear-end. The underbody exhaust might not be the best thing for ground clearance though.
Like the Trident 660, the Tiger Sport 660 is also powered by a 660cc in-line three-cylinder engine, producing 80bhp at 10,250rpm and 64Nm at 6,250rpm. The triple engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox, with a slip and assist clutch.
The Sport 660 isn’t a full-blown adventure motorcycle, but more of an adventure tourer, which should be more than capable to handle the varied road conditions of our country. Enabling this is a 41mm Showa USD fork up front, with 150mm of travel, and a Showa mono-shock at the rear, with 150mm of travel. The Sport 660 comes with road-biased Michelin Road 5 tyres.
The braking duties of the bike are handled by Nissin twin-piston sliding callipers and twin 310mm discs ahead. At the rear, there is a single-piston Nissin calliper and a single 255mm disc. There is, of course, ABS, along with traction control, riding modes, and a colour TFT display.
At Rs 8.95 lakh, the Tiger Sport 660 is over Rs 1 lakh more expensive than the Trident 660, although it's a lot more affordable than the next Tiger in the range – the 850 Sport, which is priced at Rs 11.95 lakh. Keep in mind that these are introductory ex-showroom prices for the Tiger Sport 660, which may increase in the future.
