New KTM 390 Adventure X, 390 Adventure R Likely to be Unveiled at India Bike Week 2024
The new KTM 390 Adventure is expected to get the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that does duty in the 2024 KTM 390 Duke.
KTM unveiled one of the variants of the new-generation Adventure at the recently held EICMA trade show in Milan. The variant in question is called the R, an off-road-focused version with a tall stance and an upright front fairing. The new 390 Adventure R has a towering 885mm seat height – a touch high for some riders in India. As a solution to that, KTM has a variant in the form of the road-oriented X, which gets a lower 825mm seat height, courtesy of lower suspension. Since the eleventh edition of India Bike Week (IBW) – one of India's largest motorcycling events – is set to kick off on December 6 in Goa, we expect KTM to unveil the X along with the R variant at the event. The global-spec KTM 390 Adventure comes in R, X, Enduro R and Supermoto variants – the third being showcased alongside the Adventure R at EICMA 2024. While there are still two weeks to go for the IBW debut, let's take a look at what to expect from the 390 Adventure R and 390 Adventure X:
New KTM 390 Adventure X: What to Expect?
The road-oriented X will be the entry point to the lineup. We expect a steel trellis frame, non-adjustable suspension with 200mm of travel, an LCD console, non-cornering ABS, and an 825mm seat height, the same as the Himalayan 450. The X will most likely run on 19/17-inch alloy wheels with road-biased tyres. Two colours are expected to be available upon launch here: black/orange and white/orange.
New KTM 390 Adventure R: What to Expect?
As for the R variant, expect an H50 TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. The model will likely bring the same chassis as the X, albeit with adjustable suspension (with 230mm of wheel travel). Typical for an off-roader, the bike is anticipated to sit on a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear wire-spoked wheel wrapped in dual-purpose tyres. The seat height will be higher than the X, but manageable for riders here. Other expected bits include cornering ABS, cruise control, and switchable traction control. The R will likely be offered in a single colour scheme: white/orange.
New KTM 390 Adventure: Engine
Both variants will likely get the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that does duty in the 2024 KTM 390 Duke. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, this engine in the 390 Duke makes 45bhp at 8,500rpm and 39Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. Expect the new KTM 390 Adventure to use the engine with a slightly different state of tune.

KTM might showcase the 390 Enduro R – a dual-sport bike with 21/18-inch spoke wheels – at the IBW 2024 as well. While yet to be confirmed, KTM could launch the new 390 Adventure lineup sometime in 2025. The bikes could be priced from Rs 3.50 lakh to Rs 3.70 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
