The most brutal Tiger is out! Triumph has taken the wraps off the most advanced and hardcore Tiger 1200 yet, and yes, the new adventure motorcycle will land on Indian shores sometime next year.
Triumph has taken the wraps off its all-new Tiger 1200. The motorcycle features a new chassis, a new engine, and new suspension hardware.
The adventure motorcycle now features a new chassis, which is lighter and comes with a split sub-frame. The overall kerb weight of the new Tiger 1200 is 25kg lighter than before, which makes it the lightest ADV with a shaft drive in the segment. The new chassis has also enhanced the weight distribution and lowered the centre of gravity. The tri-link swing arm is all-new as well.
The engine is a 1,160cc in-line-three unit, which uses a T-plane crankshaft. The new powerplant has upped the output by 9bhp. The 2022 Tiger 1200 now makes 148bhp at 9,000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. It is now lighter and more powerful – in short, a perfect recipe for an adventure motorcycle.
Triumph also claims that the new heart has improved the mid-range performance and top-end drive. For heat management, the Tiger 1200 gets dual radiators, which are mounted at the sides of the motorcycle. The gearbox here is a six-speed unit, which has a two-way quick-shifter.
Moving to its cycle-parts, Triumph has equipped the Tiger 1200 with Showa semi-active suspension units. For braking, the Tiger 1200 features Brembo Stylema Monobloc callipers. The bike will be available in multiple variants. The GT variants are shod with a 19-inch wheel at the front and an 18-inch at the rear. The Rally variants, which are more off-road oriented, are equipped with a larger 21-inch wheel at the front – the rear wheel size is the same on all variants.
Interestingly, the spoke wire setup of the Rally models gets tubeless tyres, which make them more convenient. The Tiger 1200 Explorer models get a 30-litre fuel tank, whereas the other models are equipped with a 20-litre tank.
The electronics include an updated version of IMU-based traction control and cornering ABS. The motorcycle gets six riding modes, which tweak the throttle and suspension response. The Rally variants also get a hill-hold feature and adaptive cornering lights.
Triumph also offers Triumph Blind Spot Radar System on the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer models. Other features include a tyre pressure monitoring system and new key-less systems, which can be used to control the steering lock, ignition, and fuel-filler lid.
The Triumph Tiger 1200 will go on sale in the international market early next year. Triumph India will bring the Tiger 1200 to our market, and we’re expecting it to arrive by mid-2022. The Triumph Tiger 1200 mainly rivals the Harley-Davidson Pan-America, Ducati Multistrada V4, and BMW R 1250 GS, which are all on sale in the Indian market.
