Mahindra will relaunch the Marazzo MPV post the COVID-19 lockdown with the same engine and gearbox combination to meet the new BS6 emissions regulations that have come into play since April 1, 2020. The Marazzo was launched on the 3rd of September 2018 with Mahindra’s new D15 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. In BS6 specification, this engine will be fitted with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust gas treatment system featuring an AdBlue tank and injection system.
And while Mahindra is using the SCR system for its larger capacity 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine in the BS6 Scorpio and XUV500, its more expensive nature is sure to drive up the price of the Marazzo considerably. Ideally, using the Lean NOx Trap (LNT) system is better suited to smaller capacity diesel engines such as a 1.5-litre unit, to bring down costs in more price-sensitive segments. In fact, the likes of Hyundai and Ford have gone down the LNT way with its compact and mid-size cars for this very reason.
As of February 2020, prices for the Marazzo ranged between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Owing to the ongoing nationwide lockdown, Mahindra has not updated the price list of the BS6 Marazzo as of now, but rest assured, they will be out once the lockdown lifts.
In terms of power and torque outputs, expect the Marazzo BS6 to develop around 119bhp and 300Nm, like the BS4 model. And the engine will continue to be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Although, it would be nice to see the six-speed AMT automatic find its way into the Marazzo from the XUV300.
