2025 Lexus LX 700h Debuts with Hybrid Powertrain
Lexus has introduced a new hybrid version of its flagship SUV – the Lexus LX – called the LX 700h. At its heart, the new Lexus LX 700h has a 3.4-litre V-6 twin-turbo engine, an electric motor (positioned between the engine and transmission), and a nickel-metal hydride battery.

For the 2025 model year, the LX SUV, previously only available with petrol and diesel options, now offers a hybrid variant, marking the first electrified version in the global LX lineup. Alongside the powertrain upgrade, Lexus has introduced the Overtrail variant, specifically designed for off-road use, and several technological and functional improvements for the entire LX range. Lexus LX 700h: What's New?
The new LX 700h has LX 600's 3.4-litre V-6 twin-turbo engine, an electric motor (positioned between the engine and transmission), and a nickel-metal hydride battery. This innovative hybrid system is said to deliver an incredible 457bhp and 790Nm (preliminary figures). Power is distributed to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. According to Lexus, the SUV's hybrid system is the first to have a starter and an alternator. If the hybrid system fails, the starter enables the engine to start on its own, while the alternator charges the 12-volt auxiliary battery, allowing the car to continue running without the hybrid system.
The LX 700h hybrid (2,780 kg) weighs 120 kg more than the LX 600. It keeps LX's off-road capabilities, including Active Height Control, Active Traction Control, and the Lo-range transfer case. The SUV's high-voltage battery lies beneath the cargo section alongside the repositioned 12V auxiliary battery. They are placed in a waterproof tray with a water sensor, enabling the car to wade through water as deep as 700mm.
In addition, Lexus has improved the GA-F architecture. Low-frequency vibrations are now reduced thanks to the revamped cab mount cushions, while the improved AVS system and Lo-transfer case contribute to the ride quality. The carmaker has enhanced the steering response with more brackets on the instrument panel and strengthened radiator support. The SUV also gets upgraded rear engine mounts and a new crossmember to offset the weight gain from the hybrid system.
Overtrail Variant and Other Updates
Lexus has introduced a unique off-road-focused 'Overtrail' model of the LX in addition to the new hybrid drivetrain. The new version draws inspiration from its smaller siblings (GX and NX) and features a Moon Desert paint job, along with a blacked-out grille and dark trim elements, and matte grey aluminum wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres. Inside, the variant gets monolith-type upholstery and ash burl black embellishment. The SUV also features front and rear differential locks in addition to the center differential lock that comes standard on all variants.
In terms of updates across the LX range, the carmaker has added a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and faster wireless charging pads. The VIP and Executive versions now feature 'refresh seats' for both the driver and the passenger, which offer five massage programs, comprising full-body and targeted options with variable intensity settings.

Lexus LX 700h: Availability
With a planned North American premiere in the upcoming months, the Lexus LX 700h is scheduled to go on sale in phases across various markets starting in late 2024.
