Kia EV9 Officially Teased, Listed on the Brand's Website Ahead of India Launch in October
The Kia EV9 GT-Line AWD is equipped with two electric motors which generate 379bhp of maximum power and 700Nm of peak torque, whereas the base-spec model has a single motor, with rear-wheel drive (RWD), producing 201bhp.
Kia Motors has teased the arrival of the flagship electric SUV, the EV9, in India, ahead of its official launch next month. The EV9 is set to make waves in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market with its bold design, advanced features, and sustainability focus. The upcoming model is now listed on the brand's official India website. The SUV was also recently teased on Kia India's Instagram page, and the website listing prominently displays the teaser trailer when you click on the new model page. The South Korean carmaker is scheduled to kick off the new model range with the debut of the car's GT-Line AWD variant. Notably, the EV9 will arrive on our shores alongside the revamped three-row Carnival MPV. Kia’s introduction of the EV9 marks a significant step in its strategy to expand its electric portfolio in India and aligns with the country's push toward greener mobility solutions. Anticipation is high as the launch date approaches.
Kia EV9: Teaser Details
A glimpse of the ocean and clear blue skies are seen in the teaser, which then smoothly cuts to the rooftop of the all-electric SUV with a two-part panoramic sunroof. The top-of-the-line model, the Kia EV9 GT-Line, has a range of about 434 km in international markets. For the uninitiated, the next-gen Carnival MPV and the Kia EV9 were initially displayed in India at the 2023 Auto Expo.
Kia EV9: Powertrain, Range and Charging Time
The E-GMP architecture, which is shared by Kia and its parent company Hyundai, serves as the foundation for the Kia EV9. The GT-Line AWD version of the electric SUV has a range of about 434 km on a single charge. It can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 24 minutes using 350 kW DC fast charging.

In five seconds, the EV9 can sprint from 0 to 100km/h. The Kia EV boasts the full package of Level-3 ADAS safety technologies, which includes lane driving assist, parking collision avoidance, a 360-degree camera with blind spot detection, and cruise control based on navigation.

Later on, more entry-level variants of the EV9 may make their way to India. The model will arrive as a completely built unit (CBU), having already been introduced to international markets. The Carnival MPV is intended to be built locally in India in the future, beginning as a CBU.
The EV9 AWD GT-Line carries a price tag of USD 73,900 (around Rs 62.06 lakh) for the US market. Prices for India have not yet been announced; they will be revealed next month. Given that the model is being introduced as a CBU, the price will likely go up even more. There are currently no indications from Kia India that the EV9 will be domestically assembled anytime soon.
