New electric and diesel powertrain options have recently been added to BMW's flagship 7 series. The range-extended M70 xDrive variant of the all-electric i7 is now available in the Indian market with an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.5 crore. Let's dive into the details of the new EV version.
The i7 M70 xDrive, BMW's first all-electric M car, has finally entered our domestic market and will be available for purchase in India via a completely built-up unit (CBU) route. Let's take a look at its price first before getting into the intricacies of what the new i7 M70 xDrive has to offer. The EV carries a price tag of Rs 2.50 crore (ex-showroom). Prospective buyers who are interested in the all-electric i7 would have to pay a staggering Rs 47 lakh more for the M70xDrive model than for the xDrive 60 version. The latter is currently priced at Rs 2.03 crore (ex-showroom). The luxury auto major also launched the 740d M Sport diesel version of the 7 Series along with the new i7 version at Rs 1.81 crore (ex-showroom). Notably, this diesel model of the BMW 7 Series will be offered as a completely knocked-down unit (CKD), unlike its electrified equivalent. It will be manufactured at the brand's facility in Chennai. BMW 740d M Sport, i7 M70 xDrive: Battery Pack and Performance Details
A dual-motor configuration powers the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, with one motor delivering 254bhp at the front axle and another supplying 483bhp at the rear axle. They deliver a powerful 1,015Nm of torque and a combined output of 657bhp. When M Launch Control and M Sport Boost are used in conjunction with the all-wheel drive system, the torque can briefly soar to 1,110Nm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. Regarding its battery setup and projected driving range, the i7 M70 has a 101.7kWh battery pack that provides an estimated 560-kilometre of range on a single charge.

The prominent illuminated grille with vertical slats, split LED headlights with DRLs, flush-fitting door handles, slender LED tail lamps, and a dual-tone exterior paint finish are just a few of the i7 M70 xDrive's unique design highlights. On the grille, the M symbol is prominently visible together with other M-specific features including side skirts, front side panels, ORVMs, and a rear spoiler. Furthermore, the M70 model has 21-inch M light alloy wheels.
BMW i7 M70 xDrive: Safety suite
Seven airbags, cornering brake control, ABS with EBD, 3-point seatbelts for every passenger, dynamic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) along with advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features like rear crossing traffic warning, lane change warning, as well as blind spot assistance make up the safety suite of the all-electric model.
BMW i7 M70 xDrive: Cabin and Feature Set
The 7 Series' interior features a dashboard that is identical for both the ICE and electric models. But in addition to leather upholstery in your choice of black or grey M Merino, the all-electric M70 xDrive also comes with carbon fibre accents. The M-specific highlights include M door sills and a 3-spoke M Walknappa leather steering wheel with an M badging. Coming to the features, the i7 boasts creature comforts such as a curved display setup comprising a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display powered by BMW's Operating System 8, ambient lighting, powered front and rear seats with massage function, a 35-speaker sound system, a 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen unit for rear passengers.
